Picture 23STEVENSVILLE, Md. – PEAKE provided logistical and training support to the Baltimore City Police Department and the Baltimore County Police Department for the running of the 135th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Racetrack in Maryland. The departments deployed video surveillance throughout the event using the AgileMesh rapidly deployable mesh video system.

AgileMesh is a state-of-the-art rapidly deployable, wireless mesh-networked video surveillance system that wirelessly transmits evidence-grade video from multiple locations within the Area of Operations back to command units. The Baltimore County Police Department currently uses the AgileMesh video system to enhance surveillance and situational awareness for missions such as pre-planned events or for incidents requiring a tactical or covert response.

The deployed cameras provided surveillance of the entrance gate, the VIP area, the tunnel from the grandstand area to the infield, the stables, and the infield where there was a crowd of 33,000 spectators. Video feeds were wirelessly transmitted back to the BCPD Command and Communications Post where the Baltimore City Police and other agencies could monitor the surveillance feeds and respond accordingly.

The Preakness Stakes is a thoroughbred horse race held every year on the third Saturday in May. It is the second race in the Triple Crown series. Over 95,000 spectators were in attendance of the 2010 Preakness Stakes.
